HDFC, Axis Bank System Upgrade on July 13-14: Timing, Services That Will Be Hit – All Details

HDFC Bank and Axis Bank have informed their customers about possible service interruptions this weekend due to system upgrades. Both banks are improving their core banking systems, which could temporarily impact online and mobile banking services.

HDFC Bank, the largest private sector lender in the country with 93.2 million customers, said that it will upgrade its core banking system on July 13 to a new platform designed to improve customer experience.

During the 13.5-hour upgrade, HDFC Bank customers can still use their debit and credit cards for purchases and online transactions, but with certain limits. They can also withdraw a limited amount of cash from ATMs with their debit cards.

However, UPI services will be unavailable from 3 AM to 3:45 AM and from 9:30 AM to 12:45 PM on July 13, 2024. Merchants can continue accepting card payments, but updates for payments received the previous day will be available only after the upgrade is complete.

On the other hand, Axis Bank, the third-largest private sector lender with approximately 48 million customers, said that some services on its platform will be unavailable from 10:00 AM on Friday, July 12, until 9:00 AM on Sunday.

Affected services include internet and mobile banking services, as well as fund transfers through NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS, credit card transactions, mutual fund subscriptions, and loan services, will be temporarily unavailable on Saturday (July 13, 2024), and Sunday (July 14, 2024).

Reason For Upgrade

In a service interruption notice Axis Banks said, “As you may be aware, we are currently in the final stage of transitioning Citi’s consumer business in India to Axis Bank. While we have tried our best to minimize the duration of interruptions, certain banking services will be temporarily affected for your Axis Bank products between 10 pm, 12th July 2024 and 9 am, 14th July 2024.”

The bank wants customers to plan their banking needs ahead of time, considering when the services will be available. After the migration is complete, all services will be available on their platforms starting at 9 am on July 14, 2024.
