Summary

EPFO introduces new rules for uploads. No more mandatory cheque leaf or passbook. Simplified claims processing for faster settlements.

The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPF) released a circular on Tuesday (May 28, 2024) mentioning that it will no longer require the mandatory upload of a cheque leaf image or attested bank passbook for certain eligible cases.

This change aims to speed up the processing of online claims and reduce rejections due to missing documents.

To verify claims, EPFO employs various methods instead of depending on validated bank passbook images or cheque leaf uploads. These methods include:

  • Online Bank KYC Verification: EPFO directly verifies your bank or NPCI’s KYC details.
  • Employer Verification via DSC: Employers can verify bank account details using a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
  • Aadhaar Number Verification: EPFO validates your bank account’s Aadhaar number with UIDAI.

EPFO Eligibility Requirements

  • You should have a valid UAN number and must be a registered member.
  • Also, your Aadhaar number, bank account number, and other KYC details should be seeded and validated in your UAN account.

How to Submit an EPF Claim Online?

Submitting an online EPF claim through the EPFO member site is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Visit Official Site: Log in to the EPFO Member Portal using your UAN and password.

Select Claim: Once logged in, go to the “Claim” section in the member portal.

Select Type of Claim: Choose the type of claim you wish to submit, like pension or full settlement.

Verify KYC Information: Make sure your pre-filled KYC details are accurate, and update them if needed.

Online Verification: Instead of uploading documents, online verification methods may be used, depending on recent relaxations.

Upload Documents if Required: In some cases, you have to upload scanned copies of documents, such as a canceled check or attested bank passbook copy. Check the EPFO website for the latest document requirements.

Submit the Claim: After verifying all details, forward your claim application.

Track Claim Progress: Monitor the progress of your claim application through the portal.

Make sure to always consult the EPFO website for the most up-to-date information on document requirements and procedures.
