Summary

Indians can now use the PhonePe for seamless payments in Singapore, thanks to a partnership between the Singapore Tourism Board and PhonePe.

Haven’t we all been there, done that? We think the Dollars we carry to another country is enough but it’s never enough. We often fall in love with something in the store on the streets of another country. But we have to leave a piece of our heart behind because we don’t have enough currency. But, don’t worry anymore if you are heading to Singapore this summer, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and PhonePe have sealed a golden deal for two years.

In an exciting development, Indian travelers can now enjoy the convenience of using the PhonePe app for seamless payments across 8,000 merchants in Singapore. Singapore Tourism Board (STB) announced this partnership on Wednesday (April 3, 2024).

Under the two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between STB and PhonePe, travelers can leverage the existing Unified Payments Interface (UPI) linkage between India and Singapore to make instant cross-border transactions directly from their Indian bank accounts. This means travelers can enjoy hassle-free payments during their stay in Singapore, enhancing their overall experience.

The collaboration also entails joint marketing efforts across India and Singapore to promote the destination’s offerings and ensure a seamless UPI experience across key tourism hotspots. This strategic move highlights the commitment of both STB and PhonePe to add value to travelers’ experiences by integrating familiar services like UPI payments.

By seamlessly integrating Singapore’s exceptional offerings into the digital realm, the goal of the partnership is to streamline payments across travelers’ experiences and promote curated deals, from attractions to dining and nightlife.

The collaboration with STB will facilitate ease of transactions for PhonePe users, allowing them to pay directly from their existing bank accounts by scanning a QR code when visiting the island city.

This strategic alliance between STB and PhonePe marks a significant milestone in enhancing the travel experience for Indian tourists in Singapore. With its iconic landmarks, rich heritage precincts, and diverse attractions, Singapore is poised to offer an unforgettable experience to every traveler, further unlocking seamless exploration with the convenience of PhonePe payments.
