Dubai, May 2, 2024: As heavy rainfall warnings loom over Dubai, authorities and airlines have sprung into action, issuing advisories and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and smooth travel of residents and passengers.
Airport Precautions and Advisories
Dubai Airports, along with local airlines including Emirates, flydubai, and Etihad, have issued advisories for passengers travelling on May 2 and May 3. The airport authorities have cautioned travellers to anticipate delays due to road congestion caused by the inclement weather.
A spokesperson for Dubai Airports recommended travellers flying out of Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport to plan ahead. To mitigate potential delays due to road congestion, passengers are advised to utilise smart apps for real-time traffic updates, explore alternative routes, and consider using the Dubai Metro for transportation to DXB Terminals 1 and 3.
Similarly, Etihad Airways advised passengers travelling to Zayed International Airport to allow extra time in case of delays. Passengers using the Etihad bus service between Zayed International Airport and Dubai were encouraged to check in early for their transfer to allow additional time to reach the airport.
Remote Work and School Closures
In response to the expected weather conditions, the Dubai Government has announced remote work for employees across all its entities on May 2 and May 3, 2024, except for roles that require on-site presence at the workplace. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has also advised private sector companies to implement remote work arrangements on these days.
Furthermore, authorities have announced distance learning for schools in Dubai and Sharjah during the specified period.
Safety Measures and Suspensions
The Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has temporarily suspended accepting requests for the entry and departure of wooden dhows in Dubai. Additionally, stakeholders have been advised to refrain from sailing during this time to ensure everyone’s safety.
In light of the weather conditions, all sports activities and competitions organised by the Sharjah Sports Council have been cancelled, and parks will remain closed until May 3.
